Rare complete set of a richly illustrated periodical on the history, design, and production of books. Published between 1895 and 1897, it was issued in 12 quarterly parts and subsequently collected into three volumes. It contains numerous large illustrations, including reproductions of illuminated manuscripts, early printed books, fine bindings, and typographic specimens. The work is a compilation of essays on topics such as English book sales, Japanese illustrated books, early music printing, English illuminated manuscripts, and Robinson Crusoe and its illustrators. The contributors include notable figures within the world of book history and design, such as William Morris, H. Oskar Sommer, Austin Dobson, W. Y. Fletcher, Cyril Davenport, and many others.
