A rare composite collection of 100 Dutch topographical engravings, assembled and published by the Amsterdam print publishers D. da Cunha and J.D. Gerstner, active during the second quarter of the 19th century.
The publishers appear to have offered a number of such collections, each compiled from their remaining stock and varying in composition. The present work consists predominantly of 18th-century topographical views with Dutch and French captions, drawn from several celebrated series by Abraham Rademaker, Hendrik de Leth, Daniel Stopendael, and others.
The collection is principally composed of plates from:
- Gesigten van de wytberoemde steden Alkmaar, Delft en Dordrecht (Amsterdam: Leon. Schenk, 1736), engraved by L. Schenk after Abraham Rademaker (62 plates);
- Het zegepralend Kennemerland vertoont in 100 heerlyke gezichten (Amsterdam: Jan Roman, c.1750), engraved by Hendrik de Leth (27 plates);
- Beschryving der stad Oudewater (Delft, 1747), with engravings by F. van Bleijswijk, J. van der Spijk and I. Besoet after H. de Winter (4 plates);
- Het Verheerlykt Watergraefs- of Dieme-Meer (Amsterdam: A. & H. de Leth, c.1750), after Daniel Stopendael (2 plates);
- Hollands Arcadia, of de vermaarde rivier den Amstel (Amsterdam: L. Schenk, 1730), represented by a single plate engraved after Abraham Rademaker.
- The engravings depict a wide variety of Dutch city views, churches, gates, public buildings, country houses, manor estates, gardens, and villages, with particularly extensive coverage of Alkmaar, Delft, Kennemerland, and the country estates surrounding Amsterdam. 5 additional views of Rotterdam, dating from ca.1758-1760, are also included.
With a bookplate with an owl from the celebrated library of F.C. Koch. The title page with a minor tear, and some of the engravings are somewhat worn. Otherwise in good condition.
