[Amsterdam], [printed by R. de Vries for] François Buffa & Sons, [ca. 1860]. Oblong (ca.16.4 x 24.6 cm. per leaf). The panorama is made up of 8 numbered lithographed views, printed in monochrome with beige tone block. The viewer looks southward from the IJ over the city from the Oosterdok (eastern dock) and the Oosterkerk (eastern church) along the docks and wharfs, via the recognisable towers of several churches and the view of the Royal Palace, to the Westerdok (western dock), a large factory, and the Blauwhoofd, the northwestern-most bulwark of the city. Original brown blind-stamped wave-grained cloth with the title and imprint information lettered in gold on the front board in a rococo frame, yellow endpapers. 8 numbered views folded making 24 pages. Beautiful example of a 17th-century Dutch writing master's copybook

[PETIT, Mathieu]. [Writing master's copybook].
[Arnhem?, The Netherlands, early 18th century?]. Oblong small folio (32 x 19 cm). With 18 leaves showing engraved writing examples in Dutch and French. The texts vary in subject, so they could also serve as guides for how to write a letter or an invoice, but of course also contains simple poems and proverbs. The script shows is a very neat and legible cursive with plenty of curling decorations to add onto letters or to frame the text. Leaves [4] and [11] are bigger and folded at all edges, measuring ca. 40 x 32.5 cm). (Early) 18th-century multi-coloured brocade paper over brown paper wrappers, side stitched through 4 holes, with marbled endpapers. The brocade paper shows in relief a floral pattern and has been decorated with a "colour spotting pattern" (see KB Sierpapier & marmering 9.2, 10.14 and illustration 73). Prize-book of the Latin School at Haarlem: polished mottled calf with gilt panel of the city-virgin of Haarlem holding the coat-of-arms of the city as her shield; underneath the motto: Vicit vim virtus, on both sides, ornamental gilt border along the edges of both sides, spine gilt with orange title label lettered in gold, gilt binding edges, green ties. Complete with the dedication of the Latin school, presenting the book to Jacob Warning, dated Haarlem, 17 Dec. 1817 and signed by the rector and teachers of the school, bound in before the first fly-leaf.
