[Iraq (plus Malta and Egypt), ca. 1928-1933]. Oblong albums (25 x 34.5 cm & 21.5 x 28.5 cm). Two albums containing about 275 silver halide photographic gelatin prints (6 x 8.5 cm to 16 x 21.5 cm) assembled and mostly taken by a British Royal Air Force pilot while stationed in Iraq and then briefly Malta, with a visit to Egypt. The photos mounted with paper corner-mounts in two contemporary cloth-covered albums, the larger with padded boards covered in alligator-skin patterned dark green cloth, with the photographs on both sides of 24 dark grey album leaves, each leaf with a glassine paper guard-leaf (embossed with a spider-web pattern) bound in before it; the smaller covered in black cloth with a grey-white bird in a cloud painted on the front board and the word "snaps", with the photographs on both sides of leaves 2-35 & 51-52 of 54 light brown album leaves. With large emblematic device with the coat of arms of Haarlem on title-page, 2 full-page engravings of raised-platform stages, 13 full-page engraved emblematic devices of the chambers of rhetoric (most including 1 or 2 coats of arms), 13 pages of songs with letterpress music notes, and 13 large folding oblong plates on 2 or more sheets depicting the festive entree of each group of actors from the competing chambers of rhetoric.

Horses in action: a great series of 50 horse plates, with the original drawing for the second plate

[Augsburg, Martin Elias Ridinger and Johann Jakob Ridinger, 1770 or ca. 1768]. 4to. With an engraved allegorical frontispiece or title-print showing the corner of a garden with an equine statue and an asymmetric decorated shield with text, 50 plates with captions in German and French, conceived, drawn and engraved by Ridinger, each giving a lively and personal portrait of a horse. All plates, including frontispiece, beautifully coloured by a contemporary hand as published, some highlighted with white chalk. Further with decorations built up from cast fleurons. Set in 2 columns, mostly with the German in fraktur type on the left and the French in roman and italic on the right (some lists with the German and French on facing pages). Mottled, tanned half sheepskin (ca. 1840), sewn on 3 tapes, with a hollow back, shell-marbled sides (brown shell with blue veins, similar to Wolfe 128), red edges. Recased, with new headbands.
